I Arrived in a Blur - Some of It is Fog!

I left in Victoria Wednesday about 8 am and finally arrived in Venice today (Thursday) at 1:05 - or, should I say, I arrived at the airport.  This involved a flight out of YVR to Frankfurt and then a connection Venice,  I've got to say that flying business was a real treat - and one that I could never do without the perks of Aeroplan.  And, I got to use the business class lounges.  Although, aside from the free booze and food, they are sort of lost on me,  The one in Vancouver was serving only Asian food at 8:30 am - not a muffin to be seen, only sushi, rice, stir fry; and, the one in Frankfurt was so crowded and noisy that, after I had some scrambled eggs and a croissant, I actually left to wait at the gate for my flight where it was much less frenetic and a lot quieter!  The flight to Venice was short - just about an hour - with good food and a wonderful view of the Italian Alps.

Once there, it was a matter of taking the Arancia Line Alilaguna Water Transport to the Rialto stop.  When I got in line for the shuttle, the guy told me it would probably be a 40 minutes wait.  So, what were my options?  To let more people get in front of me and make the wait longer?  I didn't understand his point!  Not sure why they don't put bigger boats on or why they don't go more often though - probably some sort of an Italian thing.  Then, about 40 minutes later, after crossing the somewhat foggy lagoon and seeming to just drift some of the time, I was deposited at the Rialto Bridge stop where I met Kimberly, the proprietor of the flat I have rented.  I'd been travelling about 20 hours by then with little sleep so was very much looking forward to a nap.  More about the flat later but it is very cozy and comfortable.  I'm going to enjoy staying there.

After an hour's rest, I set out to meet my friends, Faye and Barry.  Before connecting with them, I had a few minutes to take some photos of Piazzo San Marco, much of which was shrouded in fog.  They aren't the greatest and, one of these days, I am going to have to learn how to take photos in low light or darkness.  Clearly, I don't have it right yet!

We found a lovely little restaurant which met our needs -  meat for me and vegetarian options for them and, of course, wine for all of us!  After dinner, I headed back to the flat and couldn't wait to get to bed.  I started to do a blog but was too tired to complete it.  I wanted it to include the photos they shared from a couple of photo shoots they have done already - one in their jester costumes and the other in their new monarch butterfly themed ones.  I finish this with those photos and, hopefully, tomorrow, I will be more awake and the one behind the camera!
